Yet another assistant coach is leaving Rocky Top this offseason as receivers coach and passing game coordinator Zach Azzanni is leaving Tennessee to coach with the Chicago Bears.

Austin Price of Volquest was the first to report the news.

Tennessee head coach Butch Jones has since confirmed the news.

“We are really excited for Zach and his family,” said Jones. “I have known Zach for a long time and this is a path he has wanted to pursue for some time. We can’t thank him enough for his loyalty, dedication and hard work over the past four years to our football program. We will begin the process of filling this position immediately. It’s a position we want to fill as quickly as we can, but we also want to go through the detailed process, which we will.”

Azzanni was reportedly in consideration to take over the offensive coordinator role vacated by Mike DeBord this offseason, but that job title ultimately went to tight ends coach Larry Scott.

Azzanni has been Jones’ only receivers coach during his Tennessee tenure. With Azzanni leaving for Chicago, the Vols will be losing not only a good coach but an excellent recruiter. Azzanni was Tennessee’s recruiting coordinator from 2013-2014.

Losing his receivers coach is the latest shakeup to Jones’ Tennessee coaching staff this offseason which includes the aforementioned DeBord leaving, defensive line coach Steve Stripling moving to an administrative role to make way for the addition of Brady Hoke, defensive backs coach Willie Martinez being let go for Charlton Warren, Mike Canales coming in to coach quarterbacks, and offensive line coach Don Mahoney being replaced with the promotion of Walt Wells.
