Jovon Robinson’s happy to be home.

The nation’s top-ranked JUCO player is participating in bowl practices with Auburn, a program he originally signed with in 2012 but was declared ineligible after the discovery of a grade change

At Georgia Military College, Robinson rushed for 3,198 yards and 43 touchdowns in two seasons was eligible to practice with the Tigers last week after graduating from the JUCO ranks in November. He won’t travel to the Outback Bowl, but will join the battle for Auburn’s primary ballcarrier spot in spring practice.

With Cameron Artis-Payne and Corey Grant on the way out, Robinson has a great opportunity at earning the lion’s share of carries alongside rising sophomores Roc Thomas and Peyton Barber.

“The guys that come at midyear, it’s big because they get the whole spring, but (Jovon) is going to get an extra eight practices or so,” said Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee. “It gets him around our guys more than anything. We think he has a lot of upside. It’s good he gets a head start learning the terminology, learning the system and then going and doing it before we even get to March.”

Auburn signed the top JUCO player last season and it worked out beautifully after D’haquille Williams caught 45 passes for 730 yards and five touchdowns this fall.

Robinson’s game mirrors Artis-Payne’s toughness between the tackles, but it’s his home-run capability that has the Auburn offense — notably Gus Malzahn and Lashlee — salivating.
