Vanderbilt running back Brian Kimbrow and cornerback Paris Head are no longer part of the football program, according to coach Derek Mason.

Kimbrow, a junior who was suspended on Sept. 22, has been dismissed from the team. He was suspended by Mason for conduct deemed detrimental to the team. Kimbrow’s dismissal comes as little surprise as his return to the roster seemed unlikely even then.

“No one player is bigger than the team,” Mason explained September 22. “It’s always about team.”

Head, a sophomore who started in three games for the Commodores this season, has decided to part ways with the program because of a “difference in philosophy” with the current coaching staff, according to Mason.

“Paris came here under one coach and one philosophy (James Franklin) and inherited another philosophy, so that paradigm shift was a little tough on him,” Mason told the Tennessean. “He has chosen just to pursue his degree. There were no conduct issues or anything else with Paris. It was his decision, but we just came to a mutual understanding when we talked about it after the Georgia game (on Oct. 4).”

Head was recruited under former Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin and his staff. Franklin accepted the head coaching job at Penn State in January, bringing along most of his coaching staff. Vanderbilt hired Mason, who was the defensive coordinator at Stanford, soon after.
