Bo Jackson is an Auburn icon, one of three Tigers to win the Heisman Trophy and possibly the greatest player in Auburn history.

Alabama’s Derrick Henry is a frontrunner for the Heisman this year.

Given the rivalry between Auburn and Alabama, would Bo vote for Henry for the Heisman?

Yes he would.

“He is my No. 1 choice to win,” Jackson said on the Paul Finebaum Show Tuesday. “We ex-Heisman winners, we have three votes and we can vote for three players and right now he is my first choice on the list. I say this — if someone from Auburn can’t win the Heisman or if Auburn can’t win the national championship, I’d rather for it to stay in the state. If we can do that, the state is doing good. It makes us look good. … The rest of the country can not deny that we produce champions.”

Jackson went on to say that Auburn must find a way to slow down Henry if it’s going to have a chance to upset Alabama on Saturday.

Henry has rushed for 1,526 yards and 21 touchdowns this season for the second-ranked Crimson Tide.

Jackson won the Heisman Trophy in 1985, when he rushed for 1,786 yards and 17 touchdowns for Auburn.

Auburn (6-5) hosts Alabama (10-1) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be shown on CBS.

Finebaum also asked Jackson why Auburn has failed to meet expectations this season after starting the year ranked No. 6. The former Auburn star had trouble coming up with an explanation.

“I really don’t know,” Jackson said. “I don’t know, but the thing I can say is, it’s not because of the lack of effort.”
