Media calls out Ole Miss for timing of NCAA announcement
Ole Miss announced self-imposed penalties for its football program and publicly released the NCAA’s Notice of Allegations and a responding statement on Friday. Members of the college football media were not shy in criticizing what many saw as a Friday news dump, a public relations practice of releasing bad news when many people have already started their weekends. The fact that it came one day after Baylor’s dismissal of Art Briles and on the start of a major holiday weekend only added to the criticism.
Tweets from various media members show a mixture of finger wagging, outrage, humor and backhanded compliments while acknowledging the PR strategy at play:

Friday new dump, huh, @RossBjorkAD?
Before a holiday weekend? One day after Baylor blockbuster news?
Be better. #Ihaveaclue

Ole Miss just finally released its Notice of Allegations. Dumping it a day after Baylor report — perfect.
