Lawsuit: Manziel broke Austin bar worker’s nose in September

Johnny Manziel is back in the headlines for another off-the-field legal matter.
Eric Newton, a bar worker in Austin, Texas, is suing Manziel for $200,000 to $1 million in damages for a September incident in which the former Texas A&M quarterback broke the bar back’s nose.
According to the lawsuit’s documents, posted by Texas Our Texas on Facebook, Manziel was attending a private party at the New York, New York bar, where Newton is a bar back. In an upstairs private room, Manziel allegedly demanded that Newton fix his group drinks. Newton refused because he is not allowed to as a non-bartender, and suggested Manziel go downstairs to the operating bar. The upstairs argument did not result in any confrontation.
Later that night, in the downstairs area of the establishment, Newton was overheard sharing his opinion of Manziel by one of the quarterback’s friends. The friend relayed Newton’s comments to Manziel, who angrily went downstairs, ran behind the bar and allegedly punched him in the face, breaking his nose. The suit alleges that Manziel fled the scene on foot before police arrived.
The lawsuit comes days before Manziel is set to appear in Dallas court Thursday in hopes of getting his misdemeanor assault charges from a January altercation with his ex-girlfriend dismissed
Manziel has not played in the NFL since the 2015 season.
