College football is a game made great thanks in large part to annual rivalries that drive the passion of the sport the other 364 days of the year certain games aren’t taking place. Apparently, the Iron Bowl isn’t as sacred to former Auburn coach Pat Dye as it is to so many others.

This according to Zac Blackerby of Gridiron Now who quotes Dye as saying Auburn should move to the East division of the SEC, even if that means no longer playing Alabama on an annual basis.

“I’d rather see Auburn in the East than us to play Alabama every year.”

“We don’t need to let Alabama dictate what we do at Auburn. We can play them on a rotation, just like everybody else.”

It’s hard to imagine not only the Southeastern Conference but the sport of college football not having an annual Iron Bowl game for fans inside the state of Alabama to enjoy. Whether Dye honestly believes this or is simply attempting to get a rise out of Alabama fans remains to be seen, but the radio interview these quotes were taken from will air Wednesday night from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on ESPN 106.7.
