Unranked Ole Miss beat No. 14 Mississippi State Thursday night, and the Egg Bowl trophy is heading back to Oxford.

And what a win it was for interim head coach Matt Luke, who made a strong statement that the Rebels should seriously consider hiring him full time. He won’t soon forget this win, certainly, and he’ll make sure to remind the Rebels’ athletic department of that when he interviews for the full time job.

Following the 31-28 win over MSU, Luke met with ESPN’s Laura Rutledge on the field, and he was asked about the huge win.

“I’m just so happy,” Luke said while being interrupted by his players. “I’m just so happy for these guys. Happy for these seniors. They went 3-1 against Mississippi State and fought adversity all night.”

He added, “I’m going to remember this for the rest of my life. I’m just so happy for our players and our fans.”

Rutledge asked Luke about interviewing for the job soon, and Luke wouldn’t comment on it.

“I’m just going to enjoy this win with our guys. Hotty Toddy!”
