On Monday, new Memphis coach Penny Hardaway announced that the Tigers would be playing Tennessee during their non-conference schedule once again.

However, Memphis’s ambition isn’t stopping there, as the Tigers are now eyeing a series against another talented SEC team.

Hardaway also said during an appearance on 92.9 ESPN Radio Memphis on Monday that he wants to set up a home-and-home series against John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats (via 247Sports):

“I’m trying to get a home and home with Cal,” Hardaway said. “Cal promised me if I became a head coach we’d get something set up.”

Memphis was a great program when Calipari was in charge, but Hardaway will have his work cut out for him to get it back to those heights.

Still, it’s great that he’s willing to challenge his players, and we’ll see if this potential series ends up happening in the near future.
