Several Florida players were suspended for the 2017 season due to their involvement in a credit card fraud scheme, including star WR Antonio Callaway and talented RB Jordan Scarlett.

Instead of returning to the Gators, Callaway is heading to the NFL, but Scarlett will be back in Gainesville this fall for one more ride with his college team.

In an interview with FloridaGators.com this week, Scarlett said he felt like he owed his teammates one more year, adding that he learned a lot from being suspended:

“I just felt like I had a lot of unfinished business here and I owe my team a lot from last year, so I decided to come back and give them all I got,” he said. “It was very difficult, a tough time for me considering how much I care about and love football. It was just a time for me to sit back and reflect on life. It was a big learning lesson.”

Obviously, had Scarlett declared for the NFL Draft, he wouldn’t have been a high pick, but a team likely would have taken a flyer on him in the later rounds.

Now, though, he has a chance to rehab his image while also turning in a big season in what should be a dynamic offense under new coach Dan Mullen. Scarlett’s role this fall has yet to be defined, but the Gators will likely find plenty of ways for him to help the team.
