Former Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly missed his entire rookie season while recovering from an injury, but entering the 2018 season, he’s back in action and competing for the Denver Broncos’ backup quarterback job.

On Saturday night, in the Broncos’ first preseason game, Kelly was dynamic, completing 14 of his 21 passes for 177 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, easily outplaying other backup Paxton Lynch.

The touchdown passes were the first of Kelly’s NFL career, and as you can see below, the first was a nice sideline throw to a wide-open receiver:

On the second, Kelly stood tall in the pocket, taking a big hit as he delivered a strike to a receiver over the middle of the field:

It’s a preseason game, so we need to temper our expectations a little bit, but it’s hard to argue with the results Kelly produced in the Broncos’ 42-28 loss.

He won’t challenge Case Keenum for the starting job, but he certainly has the edge over Lynch for the backup job entering Week 2 of the preseason.
