Though college football is still in full swing, it’s never too early to take a quick look at what the college basketball season should have in store.

The Associate Press debuted its Top 25 on Monday, slotting Kansas in first place just ahead of No. 2 Kentucky. Four other SEC teams appeared in the rankings — No. 6 Tennessee, No. 11 Auburn, No. 18 Mississippi State and No. 23 LSU — while Florida, Alabama and Missouri received votes outside of the Top 25.

Overall, it’s a great starting point for the SEC after a historic season a year ago. Long considered to be one of the weakest power conferences in college basketball, the SEC sent a record-setting eight teams to the 2017-18 NCAA Tournament.

The AP clearly believes the league has a great chance to follow that up with another strong season.
