Purdue coach Jeff Brohm, at his regular weekly press conference, addressed what he called “speculation” regarding his connection with the now open job at Louisville.

Brohm, a former player and assistant coach at Louisville, said he’s heard the “noise” just like everyone else and noted he wouldn’t comment on it, other than to say he would be honest with players and recruits.

Brohm’s name is almost universally at the top of the list by many reports following the Sunday firing of Bobby Petrino at Louisville.

The Cardinals are 2-8 and have two games left in a forgettable season where the team’s had five blowout losses where the opponent topped 50 points. Athletics director Vince Tyra said he didn’t see enough improvement after the bye week and he wasn’t confident Petrino could turn things around next season. A new head coach would be hired to restore the program to national prominence.

Brohm, a Louisville native, won two league championships at Western Kentucky before he took the Purdue job, where he has significantly upgraded the team’s offense. The Boilermakers hold one of the biggest upsets in college football this season with a win over Ohio State.

Brohm is such a leading candidate at Louisville, he was brought up twice in Sunday’s press conference with Tyra.
