When former Auburn LB Deshaun Davis is playing on Sundays next fall, he’s going to have a serious case of FOMO.

That’s because most of the Auburn defense is returning, including star DL Derrick Brown. Sadly for Davis, he doesn’t have any college eligibility remaining, so he can’t join his friends for the 2019 season.

As he prepares to try to improve his draft stock at this week’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Davis said he was pretty surprised that Brown decided to return for his senior season (via AL.com):

“It really surprised me because I really feel like Derrick Brown is a top-10, first-round talent,” Davis said Monday at a press conference to kick off Senior Bowl week in Mobile. “Sometimes, I was at linebacker and I would see him manhandle some people and I’d stop after the play and be like, ‘Oh, wow.’ He manhandles grown men with one arm—and that’s not normal. So, it was kind of weird to see him come back.”

Brown was being mentioned in several mock drafts as a potential first-round pick, but he reportedly wanted to return to school to win a championship.

If he has another big year in 2019, he could indeed live up to his top-10 billing from Davis, perhaps even joining whatever team Davis ends up on in April.
