Auburn caused some controversy just before halftime of the Iron Bowl this past season, kicking a field goal after the refs signaled for the clock to start running with just 1 second left.

Nick Saban and many Alabama fans were irate with the officials allowing the play to stand, and it certainly ended up being a factor in the Tigers’ 48-45 win.

On Tuesday, the NCAA announced new rules that would prevent a similar situation from happening again. On Tuesday night, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn (or whichever staffer runs his account), had an interesting reaction to the new rule on Twitter:

Clearly, the implication there is that Alabama complaining forced the NCAA to make the rule change.

We’ll see how long that tweet remains up, or if Malzahn decides to delete it.
