Dave Aranda left his position as LSU’s defensive coordinator this offseason to take the head coaching job at Baylor.

Now, Bo Pelini is back in Baton Rouge for his second stint as the Tigers’ defensive coordinator. Will there be a dropoff?

In Athlon’s anonymous SEC coaches quotes piece this year, coaches don’t seem to think Aranda’s loss will be as big as many think:

“Dave Aranda is gone, but that’s probably the best for both parties,” one coach said.

Another anonymous coach thinks Pelini will be a much better fit alongside head coach Ed Orgeron:

“I think you saw a few times where Dave’s scheme was so intricate it was overwhelming the players, especially if they had some depth issues or were banged up. Bo Pelini is going to live nicely with Ed,” another anonymous coach quote read.

The Tigers lost a lot of talent on both sides of the ball from last year’s team. Will Pelini be able to get his system installed quickly and effectively? We’ll find out starting next month.
