Lane Kiffin is going to watch a top high school football game on Friday night. And he hopes that 1 particular player who will be on the field ends up being Ole Miss’ future quarterback.

Kiffin tweeted that he’ll be attending the Louisiana playoff matchup between Isidore Newman School and Episcopal School of Baton Rouge. While there are surely talented players on both sides, the most noteworthy is Arch Manning, the quarterback for Isidore Newman.

Manning, the nephew of all-time great QBs Peyton and Eli Manning, is the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. His uncle, Eli, and his grandfather, Archie, both went to Ole Miss, so it’s not a surprise that the Rebels have been in the running.

In the past, Kiffin wouldn’t have been able to announce that he was attending a high school football game due to NCAA recruiting rules. As ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren pointed out, college coaches were not previously allowed to “endorse any noninstitutional athletic events or a prospect’s team, coach or athletic facility.”

That’s no longer the case, and Kiffin could share his excitement for this marquee high school matchup. It should be an exciting game. And perhaps Kiffin will eventually end up successful in his efforts to get Manning to come to Oxford in the near future.
