One of LSU’s assistant coaches appears to be headed to the Midwest days after the university hired Brian Kelly away from Notre Dame as its next head football coach.

According to FootballScoop’s John Brice, Tigers wide receivers coach and assistant head coach Mickey Joseph will join the staff at Nebraska. Joseph is completing his 4th season in Baton Rogue.

It’s a return to Lincoln for Joseph, a former Cornhuskers quarterback who played for the program in the late 1980s and early 1990s under legendary head coach Tom Osborne. He was promoted to assistant head coach after the 2019 season after guiding the development of such players as Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson during the Tigers’ historic national championship run. Joseph’s brother, Vance, is the former head coach of the Denver Broncos and currently the defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals.

Nebraska is coming off a 3-9 record and has yet to record a winning season in the 4 seasons Scott Frost has led the program.
