A scuffling Florida basketball team has suffered another blow. Gators head coach Mike White told reporters Friday that center Jason Jitoboh is out for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

Thomas Goldkamp of 247Sports shares that Jitoboh had surgery on his eye from a recent hit he took.

Jitoboh is in his third season at UF. He appeared in 33 games over his first 2 seasons, averaging 1.5 points per game. This season, he has logged 188 minutes, including 70 minutes in 3 consecutive starts this month. He made those starts in place of starting Gator big man Colin Castleton, who is sidelined with a shoulder injury that White described as significant. Castleton has missed UF’s games against Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Tennessee. Forward CJ Felder was limited to just 3 minutes after dealing with a non-COVID illness.

Jitoboh’s injury came in the first half of Wednesday night’s loss at Tennessee. He had logged 13 minutes before his early exit.

White’s squad, which is looking to snap a 2-game losing skid, hosts Oklahoma State on Saturday as part of the SEC/Big 12 challenge.
