A common saying you always hear among athletes is how they are solely focused on the game in front of them or how they ignore what’s said about them on either on television, radio or social media.

Well, that cannot be said for Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk.

On Monday, Mauk confessed he spent some time on Twitter clicking through what fans had to say about his poor performance against Georgia.

The sophomore quarterback is coming off his worst collegiate performance this past weekend, throwing for just 97 yards on 9-for-21 passing. He also threw four interceptions, nearly half of the passes he actually completed to his own team.

Frustrated by the blowout loss, Mauk has been putting extra time in to fix the mid-season struggles the offense is going through. In their last two games, Missouri has scored just 21 points and gained 427 yards. Against Georgia, the Tigers failed to gain 100 yards rushing or passing.

“It comes back to what I said after the game, if you go back and look at the film there was no execution whatsoever,” Mauk said. “We have to put in extra time for that and we have to get our stuff back together. They were all at my house after the game after our parents had left and we just sat there and talked for a couple hours.”

“I mean, last night it’s 2 a.m. and we are at the indoor with the lights on and trying to get that stuff back,” he added. “And that’s what we’re going to do and we’re going to be ready to go.”

Aside from the lack of offense out of Mauk and the other Missouri players, the Tigers turned the ball over five times, something which head coach Gary Pinkel said was a new experience for him.

“In any offense, you can’t turn the ball over five times,” Pinkel said frankly to the media. “I don’t ever remember in my career ever doing that since I’ve been coaching. You can have 600 yards of offense and turn the ball over five times and you’re probably not going to win the football game.”

Missouri and its offense looks to rebound this weekend against another struggling SEC East team – the Florida Gators. For Mauk, he’s excited to move past last week and is ready to show Missouri fans the fight left in this team.

“It’s frustrating, but there’s adversity and I know Coach Pinkel says the same stuff, it’s how you fight back,” Mauk said. “Our guys are ready to go, yeah people are upset, but it’s going to be a different week for us.”

“I promise I’m going to get better this week and we’re going to come out firing this week.”
