The Tennessee Volunteers (3-3) cruised to a 45-10 win over FCS Chattanooga on Saturday. The Vols forced a 5-of-14 third down efficiency and allowed 201 total yards. The Mocs recorded 96 passing yards and 105 rushing.

Tennessee’s coordinators called a solid game. The Vols used the advantage of facing an FCS opponent to spread the football to different skill position players, which was also the case in its two previous victories. The Vols saw rushing attempts by eight players and receptions by nine. Tennessee finished with 340 yards of total offense, 217 passing and 123 rushing.

Tennessee’s offense capitalized on good field position set up by strong defensive stands, big returns and turnovers. Cameron Sutton’s 42-yard punt return set up Tennessee’s first scoring drive. The Vols took possession from Chattanooga’s 38-yard line and drove three plays and five yards in 2:34. Marquez North ended the drive with a 5-yard touchdown reception in the corner of the end zone.

Tennessee capped off a 68-yard return by Eric Berry with a 19-yard pass to Johnathon Johnson in its first possession of the second half. The Vols added seven more points after a 53-yard interception return by Justin Coleman set up a 16-yard touchdown drive capped off by Justin Worley’s 1-yard run.

Butch Jones also made a smart decision letting Nathan Peterman take snaps with a large lead. Peterman looked rattled in past performances and may have had his confidence boosted after Saturday. The redshirt sophomore threw for 19 yards on 3-of-5 passing and rushed for 26 yards and a touchdown on five attempts.
