The ongoing recruiting frenzy across college football reached a fever pitch this weekend in the final days leading up to National Signing Day on Wednesday.

A number of promising recruits made their final campus visits before the big day, including four-star All-American offensive tackle Drew Richmond, who visited Tennessee despite having committed to Ole Miss last September.

Kahlil McKenzie, one of Tennessee’s five-star defensive line recruits and one of the top talents in the class, took notice to Richmond’s visit to Knoxville and opted make Ole Miss aware of it.

He tweeted the following photo and caption to Rebels’ head coach Hugh Freeze on Saturday evening:

As you can imagine, McKenzie’s tweet was not well received by Ole Miss faithful, and 6-foot-5, 295-pound offensive linemen Robert Conyers took up for the Hotty Toddy cause:

Conyers is referring to the score of Ole Miss’ victory against Tennessee last season. But rather than shut McKenzie down, the rebuttal only fired him up more, which resulted in the following back-and-forth between McKenzie and Conyers for the entire Internet to see:

A few hours later after emotions cooled down, McKenzie took to the Twitterverse again, but this time took a higher road:

One thing’s for certain: National Signing Day can’t get here soon enough.
