After signing the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation in 2017, coach Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide are off to a slow start in 2018.

They only had commitments from three 4-star prospects making up their entire 2018 class, and on Thursday evening, they lost 4-star RB Dameon Pierce, who announced he was reopening his recruitment on Twitter:

The Tide obviously landed 5-star RB Najee Harris as the jewel of their 2017 class, so they should have depth in the backfield for years to come, but losing Pierce hurts their 2018 standings.

Their only other commits are Tennessee DE Jordan Davis and Florida DB Xavier Williams both of whom are 4-star recruits.

Pierce, a Georgia native, is a 5-11, 205-pound running back who has also been recruited by Auburn, Georgia, Florida and a host of other big-name programs.

According to the 247Sports composite, Pierce is the No. 5 running back in the class of 2018 and the No. 17 overall recruit from the state of Georgia. Check out his Hudl highlight reel below:
