The lead up

SDS News: Stats show first drive key to Louisville outcomes under Bobby Petrino

Bobby Petrino likes to take the ball if he wins the coin toss. A Louisville paper found that what happens on Louisville’s first drive often sets the tone of the game. In the past four seasons at Louisville, Petrino’s teams are 20-3 when they score on their first drive and 14-15 when they don’t.

SDS News: Petrino shares his thoughts on Alabama’s ongoing QB battle

Alabama released its depth chart Monday, but Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa were both listed at QB1. Bobby Petrino’s Louisville squad will prepare to face both quarterbacks, the coach told reporters.

“One of them only played a half and then cranked the ball deep and did a great job throwing the football. We’ve been having to prepare for both of them. They both can run, and they’re both big, 220-pound guys.”

SDS News: Alabama coach Nick Saban tells reporters not to assume anything on QB battle

When one reporter speculated that no announcement of the starting quarterback on Monday meant no announcement until Saturday, Saban was quick to correct him.

“I don’t think you should assume anything. If I’m ready to tell you, I’ll tell you. If I’m not, I won’t.”
