Alabama made sure to avoid a letdown against Mercer with a matchup against Auburn looming ahead.

The Crimson Tide jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead and never looked back. The final score was 56-0 with Alabama dominating the overpowered Bears all afternoon long. The Tide offense racked up 530 yards of total offense and threw for six touchdowns on just 18 passing attempts.

Alabama should hold on to its No. 1 ranking in the Playoff Top 25 which will set up an incredible Iron Bowl this week with the SEC West title on the line. The Tide will look to get a strong week of preparation in leading up to the game, and Alabama’s coaching staff selected eight players for Player of the Week honors following the win over Mercer. The university shared the announcement on Monday.

The Offensive Players of the Week are OL J.C. Hassenauer, QB Jalen Hurts, RB Josh Jacobs, and WR Cam Sims. Hurts was incredibly efficient during his time on the field while completing 7 of 7 passes for 180 yards and 3 TDs in the win. Hassenauer had a strong performance on the offensive line and was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week for his outing. Jacobs continued his versatility with 86 total yards and a touchdown. Sims contributed two catches for 21 yards and a touchdown.

The Defensive Players of the Week are LB Dylan Moses and DB Deionte Thompson. Both players accounted for a turnover with the Tide defense and helped limit the Bears to 161 yards of offense. Moses, a freshman, contributed 11 tackles, four tackles for loss, and an interception. Thompson had five tackles, one tackle for loss, and an interception.

The Special Teams Players of the Week are P JK Scott and DB Trevon Diggs. Scott had four touchbacks on nine kickoff attempts and served as the PAT kicker, going 8 for 8 on those kicks. Diggs served on the kickoff team and recorded one tackle against the Bears.
