Alabama’s wide receivers are ready to take out their opponents.

At least that’s what it seems from the unit’s new nickname – the assassins – courtesy of talented junior wideout ArDarius Stewart.

Fellow wideout Robert Foster explained the nickname to TideSports.com’s Ben Jones.

“It comes from the heart, man. It comes from the heat that we go through,” Foster said. “The blood, the sweat, the tears that we spread on the field … It’s just our mentality. We’re tough. We’ve been through so much in camp and the running that we have to be assassins. We have that savage mentality.”

The returning statistical leader of the group is Calvin Ridley. As a true freshman, Ridley turned heads with 89 catches for 1,045 yards and seven touchdowns. Stewart, Foster and Ridley will likely be playing alongside Gehrig Dieter, a graduate transfer from Bowling Green, in game action this fall.

Stewart, coming off 63 catches for 700 yards and four touchdowns in 2015, says the receivers are determined to deliver big plays by any means necessary.

“We’ve got to be the slashers, man,” Stewart said. “We’ve got to come in when we need a big play. Sacrifice our bodies, make something happen and make something come through. When we’re down and we’re struggling, we’ve got to swing the momentum in our hands.”
