A month after his strange involvement with local police, Buffalo has made the decision to release former second-round draft pick Cyrus Kouandjio the team announced Wednesday. The former standout Alabama offensive lineman was drafted by the Bills in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Last month, Kouandjio was reportedly found by police half dressed climbing a fence. Initially, it was reported Kouandjio asked officers to shoot him, but that was later debunked by later reports.
It’s unclear whether the aforementioned incident played any role in Buffalo’s decision to move on from Kouandjio, but it was a troubling incident to be sure. The team not only released a public statement following the bizarre incident but fellow teammate Richie Incognito also expressed his concern for his teammate during the offseason.
In three seasons with the team, Kouandjio appeared in 25 games and made seven starts for Buffalo during that time. In his short NFL career, the former Crimson Tide offensive lineman has also battled through a tough hip injury which required surgery early this offseason.
The 23-year-old Kouandjio could potential still have a bright future ahead of him if he can stay healthy and stay out of the headlines for the wrong reasons. It will be interesting to see how quickly another team is willing to give him a chance to prove himself this offseason.
