Boo Corrigan, the chair of the College Football Playoff selection committee, was asked Tuesday night about the distinction between Alabama and Texas in the latest CFP rankings, and how much of an impact their early-season head-to-head matchup has in those considerations.

That sounds a little silly, but considering it was the beginning of the year and the Alabama and Texas we see now are completely different teams than their early-season counterparts, Corrigan was asked to address it.

Of course, Texas beat Alabama fairly convincingly in Tuscaloosa before the Tide completely turned their season around across the following weeks.

Texas ranked No. 7 in the latest release while Alabama comes in at No. 8. Here’s what Corrigan had to say regarding head-to-head matchups:

“Well, again, two really good teams. Alabama has continued to improve, and Jalen Milroe has gotten better each week. As we look at it, the importance of the head-to-head is there, just as conference championships are. But as I think I said on the show, the debate in the room continues to be strong as we’re going through this and making sure that we’re looking at everything as we gather more information. The teams are different. Texas has Quinn Ewers back after being gone for a couple weeks. We’ll continue to look at it, but head-to-head certainly is important.”

In a scenario where Texas and Alabama both win out, it’s hard to see the committee rolling with the Crimson Tide short of an unorthodox circumstance. Nick Saban and Co. will certainly have some rooting interest in the Big 12 the remainder of the season.
