Bryce Young found Slade Bolden for an 8-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the Cotton Bowl on Friday, which gave him 44 on the season, a single-season record for Alabama.

Young was tied with former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with 43 touchdowns heading into the game.

On the 11th play of Alabama’s opening drive, Young completed his first pass of the game to Bolden for an 8-yard touchdown reception, to break the record. Young did it in 14 games, one fewer than Tagovailoa did it in 2018.

Another record could be in Young’s crosshairs, as well. Young entered the College Football Playoff semifinal with 4,322 passing yards this season. He needed 178 yards to tie the school record of 4,500 by Mac Jones in 2020.
