College Football Playoff committee members received added security following the backlash from the Dec. 3 Selection Show when Michigan, Washington, Texas and Alabama were chosen as the top 4 teams.
The security hire was done on an as-needed basis, according to Heather Dinich of ESPN, who added that the FBI was made aware.
“This one was absolutely over the top and inappropriate,” she reported from a source. “In my 35 years I’ve never seen anything like it.”
There was a slew of backlash regarding Florida State, from the likes of Booger McFarland, Danny Kanell and a host of politicians in Florida. ESPN commentator Paul Finebaum has described such outrage as “unprecedented.” After all, it was Kanell who declared that “games don’t matter” after his alma mater was undefeated and was not given the chance to play for the national title.
The CFP has hired security for committee members if needed since Dec. 3. They have made the FBI aware. “This one was absolutely over the top and inappropriate. In my 35 years I’ve never seen anything like it.”
