Darius Miles’ attorney has released a statement about the former Alabama basketball player’s involvement in what was described as a “tragedy.”

Miles is being represented by William White of Boles Holmes White LLC out of Birmingham.

Tuscaloosa Police Capt. Jack Kennedy said that the shooting happened early Sunday morning in the Strip in Tuscaloosa. He said Jamea Harris, 23, of the Birmingham area was shot and killed.

Miles, 21, from Washington, D.C. who was kicked off the team following the incident, and Michael Lynn Davis, 20, of Charles County, Maryland, were both charged with capital murder.

“At this time, it appears that the only motive was a minor altercation that these individuals had with the victim as they were out on The Strip,” Kennedy said in a news conference Sunday evening. They didn’t have a previous relationship, he said.

Miles’ attorney released this statement:

“Darius Miles and his family are heartbroken tonight over the death of Jamea Jonae Harris. While Darius has been accused of being involved with this tragedy, he maintains his innocence and looks forward to his day in court. Our firm’s own investigation is ongoing, and no further statement will be made at this time.”
