Alabama is poised to begin training camp without one of the most talented young defensive prospects on its roster.

That’s because Eyabi Anoma is currently not enrolled in classes in Tuscaloosa, according to the school. You may recall Anoma briefly entered the NCAA transfer portal this offseason, which allowed other programs to contact him regarding a potential transfer, before quickly pulling his name from the database.

News of Anoma’s status in Tuscaloosa was first reported by Cecil Hurt of Tide Sports.

Anoma signed with Alabama after being rated as the No. 4 overall prospect in the nation for the 2018 recruiting cycle out of Baltimore. He was recruited to Alabama by former offensive coordinator Mike Locksley, who is now the head coach at Maryland.

The outside linebacker/defensive end registered nine tackles last fall and was set to enter the coming season as a sophomore. He was honored as an All-SEC Freshman Team selection by the league’s coaches last fall.
