The Alabama center’s decision to enter the transfer portal followed the Crimson Tide’s snapping issues in the Rose Bowl loss to Michigan. Keeping with tradition, Ohio State and Michigan will play in The Game on Nov. 30, the final weekend of the regular season, in 2024.

McLaughlin leaves Tuscaloosa after 4 seasons at Alabama. A former Buford (Georgia) standout, McLaughlin signed with Alabama in the Class of 2020 over scholarship offers from 19 other programs, including Arkansas, Auburn and Georgia.

McLaughlin played just 10 snaps against Kentucky during the 2020 season, which does not count against his eligibility due to COVID-19. He played in 10 games of the 2021 season, starting the final 3 contests.

In 2022, McLaughlin started at 8 games at center, playing in 11 games. He started all 14 games at center in the 2023 campaign, helping the Crimson Tide capture another SEC championship and return to the College Football Playoff.
