Alabama K Andy Pappanastos has only been on the losing side of the Ole Miss-Alabama rivalry once, and that was back in 2013 as a true freshman.

Back then, Pappanastos was with the Rebels as they lost 25-0 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. He was then part of the back-to-back Ole Miss teams that took down the Crimson Tide.

Ahead of the 2016 season, he transferred to Alabama and watched last year as the Crimson Tide earned a 48-43 victory.

As the Alabama starting kicker this year, he’s hoping to once again be on the winning side of the rivalry when the Rebels visit Tuscaloosa this weekend.

An Alabama native, Pappanastos explained his decision to transfer from Ole Miss to 247Sports:

“The opportunity to come here just kind of came up, and it was something that I couldn’t really turn away, especially getting back to my home state,” Pappanastos said. “I grew up a big Alabama fan. We have season tickets, section L in the stadium, for a little while. It was always kind of a dream to be playing here, and once that kind of came up it was a no-brainer.”

He added that he really enjoyed his time in Oxford and has no ill will toward the Ole Miss program:

“I looked at going to Alabama,” Pappanastos said. “I was in the recruiting class with Adam Griffith, and they actually offered him pretty early. So, I was like, ‘Well, that’s kind of out of the equation now.’ Ole Miss came up and I really loved it there. The campus is great and the school was a really good fit for me, as well. It worked out really well.”

Based on the way the last few games between Ole Miss and Alabama have gone, this weekend’s game may be decided by Pappanastos’s leg.
