Kirk Herbstreit details underdog history for Washington: ‘That’s not lost on them’

Kirk Herbstreit understands that being an underdog is nothing new for Washington.

The Huskies are underdogs once again with Michigan as a 5.5-point favorite heading into kickoff, according to ESPN BET. Washington has used that kind of underdog mentality to motivate the team this season. It looks like there won’t be any shortage of bulletin board material for Washington.

“That’s been a big rallying call of theirs. It seems like every game that we’ve done of Washington’s, they’ve been an underdog. Imagine how they feel, they were an underdog at Oregon State, in a game at Corvallis late in the year in a game that we called,” said Herbstreit on the latest edition of “The Pat McAfee Show.” “They were an underdog in the Pac-12 Championship in a team they beat in Oregon. They rallied around that felt disrespected. They were an underdog against Texas last game, went out and won that game. It’s only fitting that they’re an underdog again against Michigan.”

Much like Michigan, Washington is ready to take on the world. Herbstreit believes the game could be decided by as little as 3 points.

“That’s not lost on them that people doubt them. I know Michigan has the shirt that says Michigan vs. Everybody, but Washington walks around with that same feeling,” said Herbstreit. “Both of these teams have had a bit of a chip on their shoulder, out to prove everybody wrong. … I don’t know who’s gonna win, but I think it’s a 31-28 kinda game.”

No. 1 Michigan and No. 2 Washington battle things out at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
