Mark Sears made some history early in Alabama’s battle with Vanderbilt on Tuesday night in Tuscaloosa, becoming the 82nd player in Division 1 history to reach the 2,500-point plateau.

The senior guard has helped lead a revival of Crimson Tide basketball during his career after transferring from Ohio in 2022, leading Alabama to the Sweet 16 in 2023 and to its first Final Four appearance in 2024. Now, he’s in a position to lead the 4th-ranked Crimson Tide back to the Final Four and on Tuesday reached a scoring level only reserved for college basketball’s elite.

Sears had 10 points at halftime of Tuesday night’s game, helping Alabama take a commanding 48-31 lead over Vanderbilt as the Crimson Tide look to build on last Saturday’s victory at Kentucky.

Sears is averaging 18.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists this season. He’s also averaging 1.1 steals per contest and only 2.4 turnovers per game, so he’s taking care of the ball while doing a lot of other things to lead the Crimson Tide to where they are.

The Crimson Tide are 15-3 overall and 4-1 in the SEC going into Tuesday night’s showdown with the Commodores at Coleman Coliseum, as Sears looks to get them back to the Final Four for the second straight season.
