Montana Fouts had the perfect birthday present Friday night.

The No. 3 seed Alabama Crimson Tide’s star pitcher threw the first perfect game in 21 years — the 5th pitcher in history to do it — at the Women’s College World Series. The Tide thumped No. 2 seed UCLA 6-0 behind Fouts’ epic performance. Previously, Alabama was 0-10 all-time against the Bruins.

In front of a record crowd, the junior Fouts struck out 14 — 9 of the first 12 batters she faced — to propel Alabama’s 20th straight win.

Alabama’s Kaylee Tow broke the game wide open in the 5th inning with a 3-run bomb. That was all Fouts needed.

In 2 WCWS games, Fouts has struck out 30 of the 43 batters she’s faced and allowed just 2 hits in 14 innings. The best part about Fouts is that she’s getting better as the season progresses.

โ€œJust to watch greatness is pretty cool,โ€ Alabama softball head coach Patrick Murphy said. โ€œAll of you were a witness to it. So, didnโ€™t think she would get better from yesterday, but she did. And these are, obviously you guys know, these are good teams. I mean, this is the king of the Pac-12, the Pac-12 Champions, and to throw a perfect game against legendary UCLA is something else for a kid from a small town from northeast Kentucky. So just an unbelievable feeling.โ€

Alabama will return to the field Sunday as it continues its quest for a national title.
