On Monday, it was reported that Alabama was looking to hire away Ole Miss defensive line coach Freddie Roach for the same position on Nick Saban’s staff. While no official announcement has been made by the Crimson Tide, it’s become clear that Roach has indeed returned to UA.

A photo shared on Tuesday on Twitter by Memphis Academy head coach Cedric Miller shows Roach making a recruiting visit, sporting the Alabama logo.

Roach played linebacker at Alabama from 2002-05 and was named National Freshman of the Year, a freshman All-American, was twice selected second-team All-SEC. Though Roach did not play for Saban, he’s quite familiar with the Crimson Tide head coach having previously served on staff as an assistant strength coach from 2008-10 and as director of player development from 2015-16.

Roach, who joined the Ole Miss staff in 2017, was recently announced as being retained by Lane Kiffin, though some media reports described the situation as Roach opting to stay at Ole Miss instead of joining new New York Giants head coach Joe Judge’s staff. Judge was formerly an assistant at Alabama under Saban.
