Tragic news to report at Alabama.

During Nick Saban’s Monday press conference, he announced that assistant coach Mike Locksley’s son had been tragically killed.

“On another note, Mike Locksley, our receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator, his son was killed. I just want everyone to understand that our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike and his family. We will do everything we can to support him during this time.”

Saban didn’t give any additional details.

According to ABC2News, Meiko Anthony Locksley was shot and killed in Columbia, Maryland, late Sunday night. According to Locksley’s official bio on Alabama’s website, he has a son named Meiko. Per the ABC2News report, Police found the man with gunshot wounds, and he was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he died overnight. Police are still investigating the shooting.

Alabama hired Locksley in January as a full-time offensive assistant coach. He spent the 2016 season as an offensive analyst. Locksley had multiple stops at Maryland during his coaching career. Most recently, he was the Interim HC in 2015 prior to being the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
