Nick Saban announced Monday that Alabama DB Tony Mitchell is suspended following the freshman’s recent arrest in Florida for drug possession.

Holmes County Sherrif’s Office announced the arrest of Mitchell and his passenger in a March 16 post on Facebook. Mitchell is facing a charge of possession of marijuana with the intent to sell and/or deliver, per the post, which includes a photo of a bag of marijuana and bundles of cash.

Saban told reporters Monday that Mitchell is suspended from the team and all team activities while UA gathers more information about the situation.

Out of Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama, Mitchell was a highly sought-after recruit, rated 4-stars and the No. 9 safety on the 247Sports Composite’s 2023 rankings. Mitchell picked up 34 scholarship offers, committing to Alabama on June 26, 2022. He signed with the Crimson Tide on Dec. 21 and enrolled at UA in January.
