With Nick Saban sidelined by a positive test, offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is Alabama’s acting head coach.

Saban held his usual Wednesday Zoom session. He was asked if Sarkisian stepping into the acting head coaching role meant any changes to Alabama’s offense, such as play-calling.

“No, not at all. He’ll call the offense,” Saban said. “He’s done a really good job of that. We’re not going to make those kinds of changes. We have a very capable staff. Those guys make good gameday decisions. I just kind of monitor what we do and make sure we’re staying on the rails. I think we can get that done even if I’m not available, which is, you know, not for certain, I hope. It is what it is.”

Sarkisian was an analyst and interim offensive coordinator for Alabama in 2016. He left to take the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator in 2017. Sarkisian returned to Saban’s staff as the offensive coordinator in 2019.
