Nick Saban the greatest college coach of all time? Mac Jones: 'C'mon, man. Of course he is'
After winning his seventh national championship during his college coaching career, is it safe to say Nick Saban is the greatest college football coach ever?
It is if you ask his quarterback, Mac Jones.
Not long after completing 36 of his 45 pass attempts for 464 passing yards and five touchdowns — without an interception — and leading Alabama’s offense to a 52-24 win over Ohio State in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, Jones was asked if Saban is the greatest college coach of all time.
“C’mon, man. Of course he is. How could he not be? He does it the right way. He recruits well, but more importantly develops great players and young men,” Jones said after the game.
“I’m just so blessed that he gave me a chance to come here along with all my teammates. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. He’s the greatest to ever do it. He’ll be the greatest for a long time.”
Here is a video of Jones’ comments after the title game.

Do you agree?
Like Mac said, of course he is. I don’t see how it could even be debated at this point.
Saban took over an Alabama program that was a total mess and in three years won a national championship. He did do it the right way. No NCAA issues of any consequence and a minimum of player issues. The Bama team has a high graduation rate and applications/enrollment and donations to the university has increased significantly during the last decade which, according to the administration has been a direct result of his success.
Saban has had a 20 year run of dominance. That’s just amazing, and unsurpassed at this level of football.
With respect, can you imagine what “might have been” had he stayed in Baton Rouge?
Yes.
From here on out that shouldn’t even be phrased as a question. It’s a Law of Physics now.
Bear Bryant is good…Sabin is great. All the shrines people have set up in their homes and businesses will have to be updated.
I’ve been in a room with Nick several times. He isn’t the most social guy but he KNOWS how to operate in a living room in front of people. I think he wants more privacy. He once said to me when signing an LSU poster, “I never hear that!”. It was after I told him I appreciated his time. That was at a booster club in SHreveport after the 2003 championship. I STILL like and admire him even after breaking the Tigers heart. I’ve often said that anyone that turned down that offer and the subsequent one from ‘Bama would need some serious mental health inquiries. His BEST job came at LSU where he turned the program around and energized the whole state of Louisiana. He is obviously the best coach ever and also loves his players, develops talent and helps build character in his young men. Sure, his current players would think he is the best but this is a two decade “process” that has worked well.
