It didn’t take long for Alabama head coach Nick Saban to respond following news of an arrest warrant being issued for defensive back Deionte Thompson. Thompson is wanted in connection with a felony assault, which reportedly took place in Texas during Alabama’s spring break.

According to Saban, Alabama is waiting to find out more before taking definitive action. In the meantime, Thompson has been excused from spring practice with the team. Alabama released the following statement from Saban Friday afternoon.

“We are still in the process of gathering all the facts in Deionte’s situation. He has been excused today to cooperate with law enforcement in this matter. Once we have a better understanding of what happened, we will make a determination as to what needs to be done in terms of the appropriate course of action moving forward.”

After redshirting his first season on campus, Thompson played in 14 games last season for the Tide, mostly on special teams. He was an Under Armour All-American and ranked as the No. 2 safety prospect in the nation coming out of high school in 2015.
