SEC fans, coaches and athletes are among the many people mourning the tragic loss of basketball legend Kobe Bryant.

TMZ broke the news that Bryant died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California on Sunday morning. According to the TMZ report, Bryant was with three other people on the helicopter when it went down. Emergency personnel responded, but nobody on board survived the crash.

As an out-of-high-school selection in the 1996 NBA Draft, Bryant’s connections to the SEC were mostly limited to various teammates throughout his 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant did get a taste of SEC football culture when he visited the Alabama football program back in 1998. YouTube provides the opportunity to rewatch what ESPN showed viewers of Bryant on campus in Tuscaloosa:

Bryant was 41.
