Locksley joined Alabama’s staff as an analyst this past season despite being overqualified for the position. He was previously the offensive coordinator at Maryland (2012-15), and prior to that the head coach at New Mexico (2009-11).
Known as an ace recruiter, Locksley’s services were sought by a pair of Florida schools. Locksley was Lane Kiffin’s top choice for offensive coordinator at FAU and UF coach Jim McElwain offered him an on-field position on his staff.
Nick Saban reportedly told Locksley to sit tight, and that when something opened up on Alabama’s offensive staff, he would be in line for an on-field role. The news of Locksley staying in Alabama comes shortly after reports of offensive tackles and tight ends coach Mario Cristobal leaving for a position at Oregon. Florida also reportedly contacted Cristobal.
