Former Maryland OC Mike Locksley turned heads when he accepted a $45,000 per year job at Alabama as an offensive analyst this season after previously making $898,940 with the Terrapins. With the low pay and off-field role, Nick Saban certainly knew that other teams would come seeking the services of the veteran coach and highly touted recruiter. According to a report from Football Scoop, it appears Saban has a plan to keep Locksley in Tuscaloosa.

The site shared an update Thursday night that Saban has told Locksley there’s a plan to move him to an on-the-field position, though the situation “remains fluid.” Locksley was reportedly Lane Kiffin’s first choice to be offensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic. More recently, he’s reportedly been in contact with Jim McElwain about the opening on Florida’s coaching staff.

Alabama could have multiple offensive assistants leave to move up the coaching ladder. Offensive line coach Mario Cristobal is reportedly meeting with Western Michigan about its head coaching vacancy. Wide receivers coach Billy Napier has been mentioned as the next offensive coordinator at Pittsburgh, a rumor sparked by his recent follows of Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi and defensive coordinator Josh Conklin.

If either assistant leaves UA, Saban could find a way to make Locksley work as the replacement.
