Alabama’s Mario Cristobal is meeting with Western Michigan about its head coaching vacancy according to a report by Football Scoop. WMU finished 13-1 this season, its only loss to Wisconsin (24-16) in the Cotton Bowl.

Cristobal, who joined Alabama in February 2013, was the head coach at Florida International from 2007-12, where he went 27-47 as a head coach. He was fired after a 3-9 season, a move harshly criticized in the press after FIU went to bowl games the previous two seasons. Cristobal’s successor, Ron Turner, was fired during the 2016 season. Turner went 10-30 without a winning season.

Western Michigan is looking to replace P.J. Fleck, now the coach at Minnesota. WMU isn’t the only school trying to pull Cristobal out of Tuscaloosa. The No. 1 recruiter for the 2017 cycle on the 247Sports Composite has been reportedly been offered the offensive coordinator job at Oregon as well as a position at Florida. The Football Scoop report notes that Cristobal has been considered a candidate for two other head coaching vacancies in recent months.

While Alabama’s official states that Cristobal is in his fifth year as offensive line coach, it is worth noting that Alabama added Brent Key to its staff in 2016 with Cristobal shifting focus to offensive tackles and tight ends this season.
