Xavier Worthy is officially a Kansas City Chief after hearing his name called in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

There is lots of excitement for Worthy in Kansas City. He’s seen as a perfect fit for the Chiefs, giving KC the type of wide receiver it has been missing on offense.

The Chiefs are back-to-back Super Bowl champions in spite of a lacking wide receiver room. Since Tyreek Hill’s departure, Kansas City has continued to be a productive offense but the club has been without a deep threat who can burn the opposing defense.

Worthy gives the Chiefs a certified burner. The former Texas standout turned in a record-breaking 40-yard dash time of 4.21 at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. He wants to be seen as more than a speedster, coming off his 197 catches for 2,755 yards and 26 touchdowns in 3 seasons with the Longhorns.

What should fans, bettors expect from Worthy as a rookie?

Tyreek Hill is brought up when Xavier Worthy is mentioned as a Chiefs WR because Kansas City has been looking for another speedy deep threat since Hill was traded to Miami. It’s completely unfair, though, to place Hill-like expectations on Worthy in Year 1.

Part of the reason for the Worthy hype is the situation he is entering in Kansas City. The Chiefs moved on from Marquez Valdes-Scantling and things have not worked out with Kadarius Toney.

Rashee Rice is coming off a 79-catch, 938-yard rookie season. The club has also added veteran wideout Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, who caught 51 passes for 574 yards last season in Arizona.

DraftKings Sportsbook has released early odds on Worthy’s rookie production. Over 800.5 receiving yards is priced at +115 for a $100 bet to potentially win $115 for a $215 payout. The under is priced at -140, needing a $140 wager to win $100 for a $240 payout.

The over/under for Worthy’s receiving TD total is set at 4.5. Over 4.5 scores is priced at +125. The under is currently priced at -150.

Xavier Worthy 2024 regular season receiving touchdowns:

Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes threw for 261.4 yards per game in 2023, the lowest average of his career. The Chiefs did not have a 1,000-yard receiver, but Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice each posted over 900 yards.

Third on the team in receiving yards was Justin Watson with 53 catches for 460 yards. Valdes-Scantling was fourth with 42 catches for 315 yards.

The Chiefs are looking for Worthy to be an instant impact rookie and provide a boost to the passing. Oddsmakers have set the bar for Worthy, and now bettors have the chance to weigh in.
