Alabama offensive analyst Mike Locksley will reportedly be on the move following the Crimson Tide’s College Football Playoff run.

According to FootballScoop.com, Locksley, the former New Mexico head coach and offensive coordinator at Illinois and Maryland, will join Jim McElwain’s staff at Florida.

Locksley will presumably serve as an on-field offensive coach under McElwain, but his exact role has yet to be released.

In three years as New Mexico’s head coach, Locksley went 2-26 before he was fired early in the 2011 season. He also served as Maryland’s interim head coach for six games in 2015, going 1-5 in that span.

Hiring Locksley could be Florida’s way of filling its current staff vacancy at defensive coordinator. Linebackers coach Randy Shannon is acting as the interim defensive coordinator for the Outback Bowl, and is considered a strong candidate to land the full-time gig. Current running backs coach Tim Skipper coached linebackers at Colorado State under McElwain for three seasons (2012-14) and three seasons at Fresno State (2009-11). Locksley coached running backs at Florida in 2003 and ’04 under Ron Zook, before following Zook to Illinois as offensive coordinator and eventually becoming a head coach at New Mexico.

McElwain stated Friday he did not expect further staff changes after naming a defensive coordinator.

UPDATE: FOX Sports reporter Bruce Feldman said to pump the brakes on the Locksley-to-Florida news later on Friday evening:

SDS will update this story as more news becomes available.
