Former Alabama RB Glen Coffee has had an interesting life, to say the least.

After earning AP All-SEC honors in his junior season with the Crimson Tide in 2008, Coffee declared for the 2009 NFL Draft and was a third-round selection by the San Francisco 49ers.

However, after running for 226 yards and a touchdown in 2009 while serving as Frank Gore’s backup, Coffee abruptly retired, going back to school at Alabama.

In 2013, he enlisted in the Army and served as a paratrooper, a job he currently holds.

But, according to NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport, Coffee has been reinstated by the NFL and will attempt a comeback now that he’s done with his Army Ranger training:

After missing the past seven seasons, it’ll be tough for Coffee to have any sort of impact even if an NFL team does sign him to a contract.

However, the 29-year-old running back doesn’t have as much wear-and-tear on his legs as most NFL backs do by age 29. Plus, with several years of Army Ranger training under his belt, Coffee will likely be in incredible shape heading into this year’s NFL training camps.
